Hangover Remedies

"Hangover remedies"

Hangover remedies range from actual and practical all the way to almost mythological and magical. The best hangover remedy out there though is still to limit your drinking or not to drink at all. Although if you find yourself out late one night after consuming a bit too much alcohol it is always best to know what you can do to lessen the effects of a hangover or get rid of them completely. These can vary and are actually fairly simple hangover remedies that are just basic common sense.  Now, you may be asking “How long will it take if I use these hangover remedies?”  The answer is it will take however long your body needs to heal itself.

One of the best and most readily available hangover remedies is water. It is lots and lots of water. One of the main causes for a hangover is dehydration.  So it would only make sense that lots of water would be a great hangover remedy and it is. Water helps to heal the body, flush the body, and nourish the body and if you drink a copious amount of it before bed after consuming a large amount of alcohol it may get rid of your hangover all together or at least lessen the symptoms of a hangover tremendously.

The other part of hangover remedies that goes right along with drinking water is sleep. Rest up because sleep is your best friend right now. It is best to get as much sleep as possible after a long night of drinking. If you drink a lot of water before you go to rest your head at night it will also help with this hangover remedy because you won’t want to get up in the middle of the night, dying of thirst. Sleep and water though- basic but they work.

When it comes to hangover remedies there are also things that are counterproductive when it comes to trying to help with a hangover. Those things that are definitely not hangover remedies are:

  • Caffeine. Caffeine will continue to dehydrate you more. That is the opposite of what you want to be doing to yourself after a long hard night of drinking.
  • Aspirin, Tylenol, or Ibuprofen. These are blood thinners and affect the liver. All of which alcohol is already wreaking havoc on. Alcohol thins your blood already and we all know how alcohol affects the liver. Now you may want to go for this quick fix and it is most of the time ok just be aware that it can have some adverse effects when you do so even though they are minimal.

One more, hangover remedy that you can use is B-Vitamins and mineral rich food. Alcohol depletes our body’s resources of B-vitamins. Those are the vitamins which give us energy, help with fatigue and improve mental clarity. Taking some of these and eating a mineral rich breakfast the next day will help you to get over your hangover pretty quick.

These are all basic hangover remedies that are things that you can actually implement regardless if you have a hangover or not. Either way these are guaranteed to work.
